The inception of the Society for Reliability and Safety (SRESA) traces back to the early stages
of the formation process, which commenced during the organization of the International
Conference on Reliability Safety and Hazard in 2005. Officially, SRESA was established on
December 26, 2010, when it received formal registration with the Charity Commissioner, in
accordance with the Society Act. This significant milestone was the culmination of five years
of dedicated efforts and unwavering commitment by the founding members. The by-laws of
SRESA, duly approved by the Charity Commissioner, serve as the guiding principles for the
organization's various operational aspects.
Initially, SRESA had fewer than ten members, all hailing from the Department of Atomic
Energy. However, with the passage of time, the membership steadily expanded, reaching
over 200 members in 2020. The current roster of society members encompasses
professional scientists, engineers, and academicians representing a diverse spectrum of
sectors, including R&D organizations, academic institutes, the energy sector, process
industries, regulatory bodies, and transportation systems, among others.
The primary avenues through which SRESA aims to fulfill its objectives include the
establishment of centers of excellence in the realm of risk and reliability, the organization of
national and international conferences and workshops, and the facilitation of knowledge
exchange among professionals, industry experts, students, and research scholars. These
platforms provide opportunities for the dissemination of ideas, presentation of research and
developmental work, sharing of experiences, and mutual learning, all contributing to the
creation of a robust knowledge base. To enhance its outreach, the society employs various
means, such as publications at the national and international levels, within institutes, and
among student groups. Additionally, SRESA is dedicated to strengthening regulatory
capabilities by actively participating in the development of codes and standards and issuing
opinion papers, thereby advancing the implementation of industry codes that strike a
balance between research and applied knowledge.
SRESA has successfully organized four national and four international conferences, making
concerted efforts to publish the proceedings of these conferences through reputable
publishers. The society has also hosted workshops focusing on identified themes, furthering
its mission to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange within the reliability and safety
domain.
SRESA is committed to transform Bharat into a risk and reliability conscious nation
supported in perpetuality by its world class R&D and academics, institutions, and outreach
programs.
The Managing committee of SRESA is elected by members through voting, every five
years. The SRESA Managing Committee of SRESA comprised of President, Vice-President
(Optional), Secretary, Treasurer and Members. The society has its base in Mumbai, India.
