Even though the processes of formation of a society for reliability and safety was initiated
during the organization of International Conference on Reliability Safety and Hazard in 2005,
however, officially the Society for Reliability and Safety (SRESA) came into existence on
December 26, 2010 when the Society was registered with Charity Commissioner, according
to Society Act on December 26, 2010. The hard work and 5 years of relentless efforts of the
founding members succeeded. The by-law of the SRESA, approved by the Charity
Commissioner, provides the rule book for various organizational operational aspect of the
SRESA.
To begin with, there were less than 10 members – all from Department of Atomic Energy,
however, over a period of time the membership started swelling and in 2020 it reached
more than 200. The present members of society included professional scientists, engineers
and academician, from R&D organizations, academic institutes, energy sector, process
industries, regulatory organization, transport systems, etc.
